Yoga of the hand for security & anxiety remedy from Paramhansa Yogananda’s teachings and Jiro Murai

Hatha yoga more accurately, Ha - tha or Sun - Moon yoga refers to the currents flowing on the right and left side of the body respectively. 

Paramhansa Yogananda said the fingers relate to the Chakra’s and that the thumb relates to the 1st Chakra the solid or Earth Center (the Muladhara). This is where feeling of security, loyalty and stability originate. Also, on a deeper level, control over solid objects.
Also in his Autobiography of a Yogi he quotes: “Krishna, India’s greatest prophet, in a stanza of the Bhagavad Gita:Offering inhaling breath into the outgoing breath, and offering the outgoing breath into the inhaling breath, the yogi neutralizes both these breaths; he thus releases the life force from the heart and brings it under his control.”*(2) The interpretation is: “The yogi arrests decay in the body by an addition of life force, and arrests the mutations of growth in the body by apan (eliminating current). Thus neutralizing decay and growth, by quieting the heart, the yogi learns life control.”

That is a lot to digest! So what happens if we experiment and simply hold the left thumb with the right hand and breathe with equal breaths head to toe and toe to head?

Try it for 6-12 equal breaths and then hold the right thumb with the left hand for 6-12 equal breaths. How do you feel?

This self help technique is shared in Jin Shin Jyutsu that originated in India. It is said this is similar to one of the technique practiced by Gautama the Buddha. According to Buddhist scriptures, the Buddha reached enlightenment in Bihar India after meditating for 3 days and nights under a Bodhi tree.

This technique was rediscovered along with remapping energy flows throughout the body by Jiro Murai who titled his discovery Jin Shin Jyutsu => Man, Spirit, the Creative art. 

If you feel some change and a sense of peace, calmness or security, you may want to try deepening it with an affirmation such as:

The treasury of the Infinite is mine, for its wealth is energy, and I am energy!

Do it first in a loud voice for the conscious mind, softer and then a whisper for  the subconscious mind and silently to reach the superconscious mind.
